10 Surprising Benefits You'll Get From Keeping a Journal

Beyond overcoming writer's block, stream of consciousness writing brings out thoughts and ideas you never knew you had in you, and loosens up your expressive muscles.

By Thai Nguyen

“When it comes to keeping a journal, stereotypes of Sweet Valley High and Napoleon Dynamite quickly come to mind; "Dear diary" is reserved for the high-school sweetheart or awkward recluse. Others see writing merely as a tool, a pragmatic means to an end, certainly without value in and of itself.  But science continues to dissolve skepticism. For those sitting on the fence, these 10 benefits of journaling will convince you to start writing.” ~Thai Nguyen

Part of growing & living an inspired life is drawing our attention to our words, and how do they make us feel?

As you go on your heart journey….

How does the word you picked make you feel? Does your friend, partner, or child have the same feeling about the word?

Our thoughts are, in part, created with the words we use to talk to ourselves and each other. When you become aware of how words make you feel, you can raise your vibration by becoming aware of your response to the words.

Let’s get started; as you pick your word, take a moment to feel and reflect upon what you choose. (I like to select my words randomly from a jar and see how that word might apply to the day or moment) Ask yourself: Does the way you feel from that word empower you? Does it trigger you? Take a moment to journey inwards. Write about it in your heart journal, talk about it, or just become aware of it.
