A DAYBOOK of COMFORT

and JOY

by Sarah Ban Breathnach

In 1995 Sarah Ban Breathnach was on Oprah and this book along with the concept of keeping a gratitude journal was introduced to me at 26 my life was changed forever.

The picture is of my actual book. Its pages are dog-eared, highlighted, and filled with post-it notes and scraps of paper with handwritten notes.

When the pandemic began in 2020 I dusted this book off, and I revisited its insightful and wisdom-filled pages, it has been a valuable tool & resource for navigating these unprecedented times and remains a resource I highly recommend for growing & living an inspired life.

I will leave you with an excerpt from

SIMPLE ABUNDANCE entry for January 14 begins with this quote:

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
- Melody Beattie

Sarah wrote “The gratitude journal has to be the first step on the Simple Abundance path or it just won’t work for you. Simplicity, order, harmony, beauty, and joy - all the other principles that can transform your life will not blossom and flourish without gratitude. If you want to travel on this journey with me, the gratitude journal is not an option.”

SIMPLE ABUNDANCE

What is Gratitude and Why Is It So Important?

“Gratitude is an emotion similar to appreciation, and positive psychology  research has found neurological reasons why so many people can benefit from this general practice of expressing thanks for our lives, even in times of challenge and change.”
